Upgrading from Trainspotter to Spotlog v5

Trainspotter is an Android app for recording spotting records.  Some people prefer to use SpotLog and transfer data from Trainspotter to Spotlog.

 

To export data from Trainspotter

  • Open the Trainspotter app
  • On the home screen, tap "Options"
  • Under "Backup & Restore", tap "Backup Data"
  • Select the folder you want your backup file to be stored in.  If in doubt, the "Download" folder can be used.  This should create a .TSS file with the database backup.
  • Wait for the "Backup Complete" message

Note, the .TSS file created by the Backup Database command has more data than the .CSV file created by the "Export CSV" command.  For importing to SpotLog, the Backup (.TSS) file is created.

Open SpotLog v5

  • Open the "Settings" tab
  • Scroll down to the "Log" section
  • Tap "Import"
  • Browse to the location of the TSS file created above, and select the TSS file.

    Note: please ensure that SpotLog has permissions to access file storage, or you may have problems browsing to the correct location.
  • Tap "Import" to import the data from the TSS file
  • SpotLog will import the data and put the sightings in the NotePad
  • Goto the NotePad and review the imported sightings in the list.
  • Tap the "Proc" button for SpotLog to process the records and match them with the book.  See Matching

Hint: if you have more sets than UK loaded, turning off non-UK sets (see Matching) will make it easy to process the import.
