Merge Locos
The data editors try very hard to avoid creating duplicate records, but sometimes these occur.
For example we had the class 66 records in the UK set. Then we added class 66 (and versions thereof) to various European sets. Later some of these loco's were transferred to/from UK. We found that we had duplicate records for some of the loco's. For example:
However, we can't just delete one of the duplicate entries - some users may have spotted "66001" (version A) and some may have spotted version B. Some may have spotted both:
Note here the user has spotted both A and B versions of 66002 (both are flagged as firsts) and one has photo and one has haul marked.
We need to make sure that when the loco's are merged, the app properly handles the records and adjusts them as well.
Merge Locos
When the dataset editors find duplicates (if you spot a duplicate, please let us know at updates@spotlog.org) the editors set up the merge on the data server. Next time the app updates it will get the merge instruction and will combine the records:
Note:
- Both records of 66002 now link to the same loco, so the 10:53 record is no longer a "first"
Notes
- There is now only one item in the class for each loco
- The merge operation has merged the "photo" and "haul" flags to the one loco
- If we were to tap "66002" we would see both the records listed under this loco
