Disambiguation

Usually when you enter numbers in SpotLog, the app can match the number to a single record in the Book.  Sometimes, a number could refer to multiple entries (eg "60009" can refer to a class 60 diesel or an A4 steam loco).  We call these "Ambiguous Entries" and the process of resolving which of the loco's was meant as "Disambiguation"

When you enter a number in the NotePad SpotLog checks the number against the book database (and against the books that are selected for Matching). If there is more than one possible match, SpotLog leaves the number in the NotePad and highlights the number (the default colour for the highlight is yellow, but this may change if you are using a different Themes)

To "disambiguate" the record, tap the highlighted row: SpotLog opens the Edit Record page:

You can edit the record details here (see Edit Record) but also, under the button rows, the app lists the possible matches for the record.  In the example above, SpotLog is showing possible matches for

  • A4 no 60009 in the UKP set
  • Class 60 60009 in the UK set

Sometimes, there will be a further match in one of the sets not currently selected for Matching - in this case SpotLog will show the "Show More" button - tap this button to show any other records that match in other sets.

Once you have identified the correct loco to match, tap that loco in the list - SpotLog will highlight the selected item:

Now tap "Update" to return to the notepad list and SpotLog will process the record into the log Matching the record with the selected class/item.

Note, SpotLog will not process the record if "hold" is selected
