The Te IV are the first SBB tractors with phase control. For the construction components of broken luggage railcar De 4/4 were used. In particular, these are axles and traction motors. They were built in 1980 by BBC and Tuchschmid in Frauenfeld. Their first application was in the western part of Switzerland in the former Kreis 1. In an accident, the tractor Te IV 8202 was severely damaged and discarded in 2003. The components served as replacement parts for the other two vehicles.
