Known as Stadler SMILE (for Schneller Mehrsystemfähiger Innovative Leichter Expresszug,
The new trains will be used from the end of 2019 in Switzerland and Italy, firstly between Zurich and Basel and Milan. On the Gotthard, the trains will in the longer term replace the tilting trains of the types ICN and ETR 610 , which will then be used on winding routes such as Solothorn - Yverdon - Lausanne. The SMILE should also be approved in Germany and Austria.
