The North Amsterdam Machine Factory was founded by Mr Laarman on 1 March 1946 under the name Machinefabriek 'Het Y'. The first assignment was to manufacture a pendulum for a truck and only after a few months 5 very old machine tools could be purchased. On 1 June 1948 the first warehouse was on the site on the Asterweg. In January 1957 the name was changed to "N.V. Noord-Amsterdam Machinefabriek v/h Het IJ".  Since then, this location has been extensively expanded.
