A loco may belong to more than one dataset.  For example, UK class 47s:

Loco 47004 is in three sets, the UK main dataset (shown here) as well as the UK70 dataset and the UKP dataset.

Note the links on the right of the table that show which other sets the loco is in, and allow you to navigate to those sets.

The reasons loco's are linked are as follows:

  • It avoids duplicating entries
  • When one is edited (eg location status, or livery changed) all update to the current value
  • One the loco is marked as seen, the seen status shows in all the datasets.

To link a loco to a new dataset

For loco editors

On the Left of the table is a dropdown menu:

Select "Link" from the menu to link a loco to another dataset.  The link dialog appears:

Select the dataset (left hand column) and class (right hand column) to link the loco to.  The database will add the required link.

Please use test sets "Test" and "Test2" for testing this feature.

Moving the loco to a different class or set

You can also use the "Move" function in the same way to move a loco to a different class or set.

Note, that app versions prior to V4.3 will not update with the move correctly: they will link the loco to the new set, but will not remove it from the old set.  app V4.3 handles this correctly.

P Numbers

Loco's may have different numbers in different sets.

For example class 47, number 47840 was originally D1661 then 47077 and 47613.  SpotLog recognises all four numbers as the same loco, and allows the loco to appear in different sets with different numbers:

LocoList editors can select the number shown as the "P Number" (Primary or preferred number) for each set by clicking the asterisk next to the  numbers in the AltNumber column:

Note that although the loco shows under different numbers in different sets, they are all treated as the same loco, and a record or seen against once instance will show on all instances of the same loco.  It is not possible to mark D1661 as seen without 47840 also showing as seen.

  • In the UK dataset, the P number is the current number carried or the last number carried before preservation or withdrawal
  • In the UKP dataset the P number should be the number currently carried
