The Bergamo San Vigilio funicular connects the upper part of the city (Bergamo Alta) with the hill of San Vigilio. It was first opened in 1912 as single-track funicular with two cars and a passing loop and was closed in 1976. It was then reopened in 1991 with a single car and eliminating the passing loop midway.
